Tree Houses
Studio Work
Fall 2017

The project publishes itself as a pilot residential project (with an open part to society) for single moms and their children whom receive much prejudice and rejection from the society in South Korea. The aim of the project is to create a both physical and psychological environment for the residents whom needs support and a surrounding community.

Project considers leftover spaces between buildings and the unbuilt FAR on parcel as an oppurtunity to utilize dead-ends and flourish the neglected inner gardens. Thus, Tree House units settle on the existing buildings with hallways compartmentalized in a privaxy range.

Juxtaposition of the ground plan and the project plan illustrates the change and the usage of the dead spaces. Hallways act as a one big living room arranged with curtains to mark the privacy zones, so that single moms would have space to take care of children together to help each other. Hallways support places for studying, as well as playing. Residents from the existing building below can also use common areas along the Tree Houses to form a community together.
